Nexala WheelMax™ is a wheelset management application that provides rolling stock maintainers with the ability to monitor, analyse and manage wheelset performance across their fleet(s). The application identifies rogue wheelset components, forecasts wheelset turn dates and procurement schedules and provides full analysis of wheel lathe operator behaviour and performance.

WheelMax helps to deliver improved fleet reliability, efficient maintenance plans and significant cost savings.

Rail wheelset management consumes a substantial percentage of rolling stock maintainers maintenance budget. It's a key area which demands comprehensive planning and prompt response to problems. This has traditionally been difficult to achieve due to difficulties accessing timely, sufficient and reliable data and the inherent complexities of wheel behaviour. Nexala’s WheelMax is a unique application which brings together, for the first time, all the essential components to deliver a solution which achieves the following:

What does Wheelmax do?

  • It identifies poorly performing wheelset components and take action to prevent wheelset deterioration.
  • It improves wheelset life.
  • It increases fleet availability.
  • It streamlines maintenance schedules.
  • It introduces efficient turning regimes.
  • It generates accurate wheelset procurement plans.
  • It reduces manual handling and processing of data.
  • It ensures sound lathe management - reducing mm of material cut where necessary.
  • It helps Increase overhaul cycle.
  • WheelMax maximises wheelset life and reduces maintenance costs.

The application's strengths comes from its seamless integration with a wide range of monitoring and measuring equipment and Nexala's fundamental understanding of transport maintenance management, planning and data management.

There are four key functional areas which all wheelset maintainers must manage:

1. The cutting behaviour at the lathe needs to be managed to ensure that consistent standards are applied and that material is not needlessly cut.

2. It is necessary to actively monitor and manage wheelsets to identify defective wheelsets as soon as possible and to identify any wheelset components which are causing excessive wheel wear or damage.

3. Maintainers must generate and maintain a schedule of wheelset turns and a long term wheelset procurement plan.

4. They must also maintain wheelsets in line with the major overhaul cycle and to ensure that they can meet that plan and to extend it if possible.

WheelMax works across all these major functional areas, providing you with the facility to efficiently manage your wheelset maintenance regime.

"We have chosen Nexala as our partner for wheelset & maintenance management software applications. Nexala bring a wealth of experience and are providing good support to our team in the rollout of these applications"
