London, United Kingdom, 29th July 2009
London, United Kingdom, 29th July 2009 Merseyrail have successfully rolled out WheelMax and Equinox for wheelset & defect management for the Merseyrail class 507 and class 508 EMUs. The fleets serve the Wirral and Northern Lines in Merseyside and are amongst the busiest in the UK. WheelMax will monitor and manage wheelsets across both fleets and Equinox will provide a platform for comprehensive defect management.

Kevin Thomas, Engineering Director, Merseyrail commented, "We have chosen Nexala as our partner for wheelset & maintenance management software applications. Nexala bring a wealth of experience and are providing good support to our team in the rollout of these applications"

Nexala WheelMax has been rolled out to assist Merseyrail with managing the company's investment in wheelsets. Wheelmax produces wheelset turning schedules and procurement plans, identifies rogue wheelsets or associated wheelset components and monitors wheel lathe operator behaviour to facilitate consistency. The product uses advanced techniques to identify wheelsets with irregular wear patterns and helps operators and managers take preventive action with the aim to increase wheelset life. Merseyrail have also successfully implemented Nexala's Equinox to manage and control all defects. The application records all defects, monitors for repeat defects and provides comprehensive performance analysis to identify trends, problem areas and root cause analysis across all components and component areas, vehicles and units across the fleets.

Paul Lowry, VP Business Development, Nexala added, "Merseyrail has been an excellent project. Both our products, WheelMax and Equinox have addressed the specific issues Merseyrail were experiencing and have added great value to their organisation. I look forward to continue working with Merseyrail in helping them with technology solutions for their rail engineering challenges"
